How do I compare prices in the Marketplace?

Providers set their own prices, and they charge in different ways, so every price on a card is shown with its unit.

Reading a price

Each service line shows a range and a unit, for example $0.015 – $0.03 per word or $400 – $900 per project. A single amount means the provider gave one price. Free means the service is offered at no charge.

The units a provider can choose are: per project, per book, per word, per 1,000 words, per page, per hour, per finished audio hour, and per month. Prices are in US dollars.

Compare like with like

A per-word price and a per-project price can't be compared directly. To compare editors, for example:

  1. Choose the service, such as Copyediting, in the service dropdown. Cards then show only that service's price.
  2. For per-word prices, multiply by your word count. For per-1,000-words prices, multiply by your word count divided by 1,000.
  3. Check each provider's website for what the price includes.

How the price filter works

The price dropdown (Free, Under $50, $50 – $250, $250 – $1,000, $1,000 and up) looks at each provider's lowest starting price. If you've picked a service, it uses the starting price for that service only.

The filter compares the number only, not the unit. A provider charging $0.02 per word shows up under Under $50 even though a full edit will cost far more. Treat the filter as a rough sort and check the unit on each card.

If no cards match, you'll see Nothing matches those filters. Try a wider price range or All services.
