How do I connect my newsletter platform?

Open Newsletter Analytics and click Add List. Enter the API key. Mailchimp and several other platforms also ask you to pick the audience or list. The app checks the key, then pulls subscriber count, open rate, and click rate. Supported platforms: Mailchimp, Kit, MailerLite, Beehiiv, EmailOctopus, Sendy, SendFox, Flodesk, and Brevo. A Flodesk segment counts as the list. Sendy reports subscriber count only.

Does newsletter data sync automatically?

Not on a timer of their own. When the account owner opens Newsletter Analytics, any list that has not synced in the last 6 hours syncs then, as long as the recovery key is unlocked. Sync Now on a list pulls the latest numbers immediately.

Getting started with Newsletter Analytics

Newsletter Analytics brings the numbers from your email platforms into one place: subscribers, open rate, click rate and growth over time, across every list you connect. Supported platforms: Mailchimp, Kit, MailerLite, Beehiiv, EmailOctopus, Sendy, Sendfox, Flodesk and Brevo. Only the account owner can connect and sync lists. Collaborators can view the numbers. Connect your first list 1. In the left sidebar, click Newsletter Analytics. 2. Click + Add List. 3. Choose your Platform. 4. Click How to get these credentials for step-by-step instructions for that platform, then paste your key into the key field. (The separate article on finding your API key covers every platform.) 5. If your platform has a Find button (Find Audiences, Find Lists or Find Segments), click it and choose your list. For Beehiiv, enter your Publication ID. For Sendy, enter your Installation URL and List ID. 6. Optionally, set up Auto-add from trackers to add ARC or beta readers to this list automatically. You can do this later. 7. Click Connect List. The app checks your credentials with the platform first. If they work, the list is saved and synced straight away. Read your numbers - The cards at the top show Total Subscribers, Avg Open Rate, Avg Click Rate and Lists Connected, across all your lists. - Each list has its own card with its subscriber count, Open Rate, Click Rate, Unsub Rate, the number of campaigns where the platform reports it, and when it was Last synced. - Subscriber Growth plots every sync over time, one line per list. With two or more lists, a dashed Total line adds them together. Keep it up to date Click Sync Now on a card to refresh one list, or Sync All to refresh every list. Lists also refresh by themselves when you open the page and they haven't been synced for more than six hours. Want a platform that isn't supported? Use the Request button at the bottom of the page.

Where do I find my API key for each newsletter platform?

When you click + Add List and choose a platform, the app asks for that platform's key and, for most platforms, which list to track. Click How to get these credentials in the window to see these steps right where you need them. Platforms move their menus around from time to time. If a menu name below doesn't match, look for "API" or "Developer" in your account settings. Mailchimp The app asks for your API Secret, then your Audience. 1. Log in to Mailchimp and click your profile icon, then Account & billing. 2. Go to the Extras tab and click API keys. 3. Click Create A Key and copy it. 4. Paste it into API Secret, click Find Audiences, and choose your audience. Mailchimp keys end with a dash and a short code such as "-us21". Copy the whole key, including that ending. Kit The app asks for an API Key only. Kit tracks your whole account rather than one list. 1. Log in to Kit and go to Account Settings, then Developer (app.kit.com/account_settings/developer_settings). 2. Click Add a new key, give it a name, and copy it. This is a v4 API key. There's no app authorization step. MailerLite The app asks for an API Token only. MailerLite tracks your whole account. 1. Log in to MailerLite and go to Integrations. 2. Choose MailerLite API. 3. Click Generate new token, name it, and copy it. Beehiiv The app asks for an API Key and a Publication ID. 1. Log in to Beehiiv and open Settings, then Integrations, then API, and create or copy your API key. 2. Find your Publication ID in your publication settings, or in the address bar when you're viewing that publication. It starts with "pub_". EmailOctopus The app asks for an API Key, then your List. 1. Log in to EmailOctopus and go to Account Settings, then API Keys (emailoctopus.com/developer/api-keys). 2. Generate a new key and copy it. 3. Paste it in, click Find Lists, and choose your list. You don't need to look up a list ID. Sendy Sendy is installed on your own server, so the app asks for an Installation URL, an API Key and a List ID. 1. Installation URL: your Sendy address, for example https://send.yoursite.com. It must start with https:// and have no slash at the end. 2. API Key: log in to your Sendy installation and go to Settings, then General. 3. List ID: on Sendy's View all lists page, copy the encrypted ID shown next to the list. Sendfox The app asks for an Access Token, then your List. 1. Log in to Sendfox and open Settings, then Connections, then API tokens (sendfox.com/account/oauth). 2. Click Create New Token, name it, and copy it. Sendfox shows it only once. 3. Paste it in, click Find Lists, and choose your list. Sendfox's API is only available on paid Sendfox plans. Flodesk The app asks for an API Key, then your Segment. In Flodesk, a segment works as the list. 1. Log in to Flodesk and open Account, then Integrations, then API keys (app.flodesk.com/account/integrations). 2. Click Create API key, name it, and copy it. 3. Paste it in, click Find Segments, and choose the segment. Flodesk reports subscriber counts only, not open or click rates. Brevo The app asks for an API Key, then your List. 1. Log in to Brevo and open the API keys page (app.brevo.com/settings/keys/api). It's under SMTP & API in your account or organisation settings. 2. Click Generate a new API key and name it. 3. Set Contacts to All and Email campaigns to Read. Leave everything else on None. 4. Copy the key. Brevo shows it only once. 5. Paste it in, click Find Lists, and choose your list. After you paste the key Click Connect List. The app checks the key with the platform before saving. If something is wrong you'll see the platform's error in red. See the troubleshooting article for what each message means.

How do I add ARC and beta readers to my mailing list automatically?

Each connected list can receive contacts from ARC Tracker and Beta Readers automatically. When a reader reaches a status you pick, they're added to the list, and tagged if your platform supports tags. Turn it on 1. In the left sidebar, click Newsletter Analytics. 2. Click the pencil icon (Edit connection) on the list's card. You can also set this up while connecting a new list with + Add List. 3. Find Auto-add from trackers. 4. Tick ARC Tracker โ†’ this list, Beta Readers โ†’ this list, or both. 5. Under Trigger statuses, click the statuses that should add a reader. Selected statuses are highlighted. - ARC Tracker statuses: applied, invited, sent, pending, askedForExtension, reviewed. "sent" and "reviewed" are selected to start with. - Beta Readers statuses: applied, invited, reading, feedbackDue, partialFeedback, complete. "complete" is selected to start with. 6. Set a Tag if you want one. It starts as "ARC" for ARC readers and "Beta" for beta readers. 7. Click Save (or Connect List for a new list). Tags and list options by platform - Tags are available for Mailchimp, Kit, MailerLite, Beehiiv and EmailOctopus. For Beehiiv the field is called Custom field tag value (optional). - Sendy, Sendfox, Flodesk and Brevo have no tags. Readers are added to the connected list (or segment) only. - For Mailchimp, MailerLite, EmailOctopus, Sendfox, Flodesk and Brevo you can send these readers to a different list with the override field: List ID override (optional), Group ID (optional) for MailerLite, or Segment ID override (optional) for Flodesk. Leave it blank to use the connection's own list. Important - A reader is only added when their status changes in a browser where your Master Recovery Key is unlocked. If your credentials are locked, unlock them first (see the troubleshooting article). - Readers without a valid email address are skipped. - Your API key must be allowed to add subscribers, not just read them. Keys with read-only access will be refused by the platform.

How do I rename, recolor, switch or remove a connected list?

Open a connection's settings 1. In the left sidebar, click Newsletter Analytics. 2. On the list's card, click the pencil icon (Edit connection). Rename it or change its color - Display Name is the name shown on the card, in the chart legend and elsewhere in the app. - Under Card Color, tick Use a custom background color and choose a color. Text on the card switches between dark and light so it stays readable. Click Save. Change the key or the list While your credentials are unlocked, the window shows the same fields as when you connected: Platform, the key field, and the list choice. The current key is filled in so you can see or replace it. When you click Save, the new details are checked with the platform again before anything is saved. If you point the connection at a different list or platform, its old growth history is cleared, so the chart doesn't show a false jump or drop. You'll see "Connection updated โ€” list changed, so its old growth history was cleared. Sync to start fresh." Click Sync Now to record the first point for the new list. If your credentials are locked, you'll see a note saying so. You can still change the display name, card color and auto-add settings. To change the platform, key or list, enter your Master Recovery Key in Settings โ†’ Security first. Open the platform's dashboard Click the arrow icon on a card to open that platform's website in a new tab. For Sendy it opens your own installation address. Remove a list 1. Click the trash icon (Remove connection) on the card. 2. The list and its growth history are removed. Click Undo in the message if you change your mind. Removing a list here doesn't change anything in your email platform.

What do the numbers in Newsletter Analytics mean?

Newsletter Analytics shows what each platform reports at the moment you sync. Each sync is saved, which is what builds your growth chart. Summary cards - Total Subscribers: the latest subscriber count of every connected list, added together. - Avg Open Rate and Avg Click Rate: the average of the rates for the lists that report them. Lists that don't report rates are left out. The open rate turns green at 20% or more and the click rate at 3% or more. - Lists Connected: how many lists you've connected. Growth chart Subscriber Growth has one line per list, with a dot for every sync. When you have two or more lists, a dashed Total line shows the combined count. A newly connected list adds to the total from its first sync, so it shows as a step up rather than a dip. What each platform reports - Mailchimp: subscribers in the chosen audience (only people with a subscribed status), plus Mailchimp's open, click and unsubscribe rates for that audience and its campaign count. - Kit: all active subscribers in your account. Open and click rates are averaged over your most recent broadcasts (up to 10). - MailerLite: all active subscribers in your account. Open and click rates are averaged over your 10 most recently sent campaigns. - Beehiiv: active subscribers to the publication, plus Beehiiv's average open and click rates. - EmailOctopus: subscribed contacts on the chosen list. Open and click rates are averaged over your most recent campaigns (up to 10). - Sendfox: contacts on the chosen list, plus the list's average open and click rates. - Flodesk: active subscribers in the chosen segment. Flodesk doesn't report open or click rates. - Brevo: subscribers on the chosen list. Open, click and unsubscribe rates come from your 20 most recent sent campaigns. Brevo only keeps statistics for the last six months. - Sendy: active subscribers on the list only. Sendy's API doesn't report open or click rates, so its card says "Subscriber count is the only metric Sendy's API reports." A dash means the platform didn't report that number. When the numbers update The numbers change only when a sync runs: when you click Sync Now or Sync All, or automatically when the account owner opens the page and a list hasn't been synced for more than six hours. A card that has never synced says "No data yet โ€” sync to fetch stats."

Troubleshooting newsletter connections and syncing

Errors when connecting a list The message in red comes from the check the app runs with your platform. - Invalid Mailchimp API key format (expected key-dcXX): copy the full Mailchimp key, including the dash and code at the end (such as "-us21"). - Invalid Kit API key, Invalid API key (MailerLite), Invalid Flodesk API key., Invalid Sendfox access token.: the key was mistyped, revoked, or copied only in part. Create a new one and paste it again. - Invalid API key or publication ID (Beehiiv): check both. The Publication ID starts with "pub_". - Invalid API key or list (EmailOctopus): create a new key, then use Find Lists to pick the list. - Flodesk segment not found: the segment was deleted or renamed in Flodesk. Click Find Segments and choose again. - Sendfox API requires a paid plan.: Sendfox only offers API access on paid plans. - Brevo refused this keyโ€ฆ: paste the whole key, and make sure it was created with Contacts set to All and Email campaigns set to Read. - A Brevo list ID is a number, like 4.: choose the list with Find Lists rather than typing it. - No audiences found in this account. (or lists or segments): the key works, but the account has no lists yet. Create one in your platform first. Sendy errors - Enter a valid HTTPS installation URL: the address must start with https:// and be your public Sendy address. - Blocked before reaching Sendy (HTTP โ€ฆ): something in front of Sendy, such as a firewall or security plugin, refused the request. Allow requests to the /api/ folder of your Sendy installation. - Sendy said: "โ€ฆ": Sendy answered with an error, usually about the API key or the List ID. Check both in Sendy. Sync problems - Only the account owner can sync newsletter integrations.: collaborators can view lists but can't add or sync them. The data syncs when the owner opens the page. - Rate limit exceeded: too many checks in a short time. Wait a minute and try again. - Subscription required: connecting and syncing need an active trial or plan. Sync buttons are greyed out or say locked If you see "Your credentials are encrypted. Enter your Master Recovery Key to sync integrations.", your saved keys are locked on this browser. Click Enter Key โ†’ and enter your Master Recovery Key. Sync All skips locked lists until then. "Couldn't decrypt the saved API key" This means the recovery key stored in this browser doesn't match the one the API key was saved with. Entering the same recovery key again won't help. Either: 1. Click the pencil icon on the list, paste the API key again, and click Save, or 2. Replace the recovery key in Settings โ†’ Security with the one you used when you saved the list. My numbers look old Check Last synced on the card. Lists refresh automatically only when the account owner opens Newsletter Analytics and the last sync is more than six hours old. Click Sync Now to refresh straight away.
