The Author's Toolbox Marketplace.

Getting started with the Marketplace

The Marketplace lists editors, cover artists, beta readers, narrators, marketers and other professionals who work with indie authors. Every provider applied and was approved before being listed. Find a provider 1. Open Marketplace from the sidebar. 2. Use the first dropdown to pick a type of service, or leave it on All services. Services are grouped into Editing, Readers, Art and design, Audio and video, Marketing, Writing and coaching, Business and Other. 3. Use the second dropdown to pick a price range, or leave it on Any price. 4. Read the provider cards that match. 5. Click Visit website on a card to open the provider's site in a new tab. What's on a card - The business name and logo. - A badge showing what the provider says about generative AI: No AI, Uses AI in some work, or AI use varies by project. - A short description of what they do. - Each service they offer with its price range and how it's counted, such as per project or per 1,000 words. When you filter by a service, only that service is shown. - Their usual turnaround, if they gave one. Newer listings appear first. Cards marked Sponsored stay at the top. Hiring someone You contact and hire providers directly through their own website. Prices on the cards are set by each provider as a guide, not a quote. Author's Toolbox does not vouch for any provider's work, so check samples and references before you hire.

How do I compare prices in the Marketplace?

Providers set their own prices, and they charge in different ways, so every price on a card is shown with its unit. Reading a price Each service line shows a range and a unit, for example $0.015 โ€“ $0.03 per word or $400 โ€“ $900 per project. A single amount means the provider gave one price. Free means the service is offered at no charge. The units a provider can choose are: per project, per book, per word, per 1,000 words, per page, per hour, per finished audio hour, and per month. Prices are in US dollars. Compare like with like A per-word price and a per-project price can't be compared directly. To compare editors, for example: 1. Choose the service, such as Copyediting, in the service dropdown. Cards then show only that service's price. 2. For per-word prices, multiply by your word count. For per-1,000-words prices, multiply by your word count divided by 1,000. 3. Check each provider's website for what the price includes. How the price filter works The price dropdown (Free, Under $50, $50 โ€“ $250, $250 โ€“ $1,000, $1,000 and up) looks at each provider's lowest starting price. If you've picked a service, it uses the starting price for that service only. The filter compares the number only, not the unit. A provider charging $0.02 per word shows up under Under $50 even though a full edit will cost far more. Treat the filter as a rough sort and check the unit on each card. If no cards match, you'll see Nothing matches those filters. Try a wider price range or All services.

What do the No AI and AI-use badges in the Marketplace mean?

Every provider who applies to the Marketplace is asked plainly whether they use generative AI to make the work they deliver. Their answer is shown on their card as a badge. - No AI: the provider says they don't use generative AI in their work. - Uses AI in some work: the provider says they use generative AI for some of what they deliver. - AI use varies by project: the provider says it depends on the project or the author. Things to know - The badge is the provider's own answer. Author's Toolbox doesn't test or certify it. - An honest answer is never a reason for a provider to be declined, so you can expect a range of answers. - If AI use matters to you, ask the provider directly before you hire them, especially when the badge is Uses AI in some work or AI use varies by project. Hover over the badge for a reminder. There isn't a filter for AI use. Check the badge on each card.

How do I get my business listed in the Marketplace?

If you offer services to authors, such as editing, covers, narration or marketing, you can apply to be listed. Applications are made on the Author's Toolbox website, not inside the app, and you don't need an account. Apply 1. Go to the Marketplace application page: theauthorstoolbox.com/marketplace-application. 2. Under About you, enter your name, email, phone number (with area or country code) and your address. 3. Under Your business, enter your business name, the Website authors should visit, and What do you do? (shown on your card). You can also add a portfolio, a logo web address, social links and years in business. 4. Enter your business address, or tick My business address is the same as my address above. 5. Under What you offer, tick each service you offer. For each one, give a price range in US dollars (From (USD) and To (USD)), choose how it's Counted, and add anything the price depends on. 6. Under A bit more, add the genres you work with, your usual turnaround, references, and your answer to Do you use generative AI to make the work you deliver? 7. Answer the questions under Working with us about sponsored spots and referral fees. 8. Tick the confirmation box, complete the check at the bottom, and click Send my application. What happens next You'll see Thank you. We have your application. Every application is read by a person, and you'll get an email at the address you gave either way. What authors see If you're approved, authors see your business name, logo, description, services and prices, turnaround, your AI answer, and a Visit website button that goes to your website. Your contact details, phone number and addresses are not shown. Being listed is not an endorsement by Author's Toolbox, and authors deal with you directly.

Why can't I see the Marketplace, or why are there no providers?

Marketplace isn't in my sidebar The Marketplace is being opened to accounts gradually, so it only appears in the sidebar once it's available to you. If you open it before then, you'll see The Marketplace is not open yet. If you've hidden tools from your sidebar, also check that Marketplace isn't one of them. No providers are listed yet This means no providers have been approved yet. Check back later. Nothing matches those filters There are providers, but none match the service and price you picked. Try: 1. Setting the service dropdown back to All services. 2. Setting the price dropdown back to Any price. The price filter uses each provider's lowest starting price, so a provider can drop out of a range even if some of their services fit it. Visit website doesn't open Visit website opens in a new tab through a short tatb.link address. If nothing happens, check whether your browser blocked the new tab.
